Brynjarsson stepping away from MCC men’s basketball

Brynjar Brynjarsson

Brynjar Brynjarsson has resigned from his position of head men’s basketball coach at Marshalltown Community College after 14 seasons with the Tigers.

In a post on Facebook, Brynjarsson thanked the faculty and administration at MCC for the support during his long tenure in Marshalltown.

“I’m so thankful to [former MCC athletic director] Terri Craft for giving me the opportunity to become the head coach here at MCC,” Brynjarsson said. “I can’t tell you how proud I am to be able to be part of the MCC family as it is one of the greatest places in the country for people to go to school.”

Brynjarsson has led the Tigers to winning seasons in each of the last seven winters and has seen 32 players continue their careers at four-year institutions in the last eight years, including 18 moving on to the NCAA Division I.

While he is retiring from the head coaching ranks, Brynjarsson will still be shaping basketball minds as a volunteer assistant for Marshalltown High School head boys basketball coach Michael Appel, a former player and assistant for Brynjarsson at MCC.

Brynjarsson will also continue to teach at MCC while vying for the Tigers’ athletic director opening.
