STC’s Rohach ties for 27th at girls state golf

ANKENY — South Tama County senior Madison Rohach wrapped up her first trip to the Iowa Girls State Golf Tournament in a tie for 27th place in Class 3A on Thursday at Otter Creek Golf Course.

Rohach completed 12 holes worth of golf on the first day of the tournament, which was suspended because of rain. Players returned to the course and finished their first round of 18 holes on Wednesday before completing a second round.

Rohach shot 44-47–91 for the first round and 46-51–97 for the second, totaling a 188 and sharing 27th place with Pella’s Halie Veenstra.

Rohach had a birdie on the par-4 14th hole her first time through, but managed just six pars for the remainder of her rounds.

Gilbert’s Britta Snyder won the 3A individual title with her 7-under-par total of 135, carding 70-65 on the par-71 course. Snyder had one bogey, one double bogey, eight birdies and an eagle during her tour.

Dubuque Wahlert, powered by the second- and third-place finishers, won the team title with a 653 total. Humboldt was 48 strokes back in second place (701) in the 10-team field.

At the 1A meet at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course in Marshalltown, Bishop Garrigan of Algona was the team champion with a 727 total. Annika Patton of Alta-Aurelia was the individual champion with her 8-over total of 78-70–148.

At Ames Golf & Country Club, Dike-New Hartford’s Morgan Weber claimed a one-stroke victory ahead of New Hampton’s Allison Nuss for the 2A title. Weber carded a 147 to the 148 for Nuss, while Van Meter’s Kylie Carey was just back in third with a 150.

New Hampton won the 2A team championship by 59 strokes, shooting a 662.

West Des Moines Valley swept the 4A titles as Paige Hoffman shot a 5-under 68-69–137 to edge Bettendorf’s Shannyn Vogler by one stroke, and the Tigers held a 25-shot margin on the Bulldogs for the team championship.
