The future of the Marshalltown High School golf teams appear to be in good hands.

The Bobcats had two top-20 finishers on Tuesday at the Class 2A Iowa Co-Ed State Golf Tournament at Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone, and none of the four Bobcat golfers are seniors.

MHS freshmen Amber Henson and Grant Greazel teamed up to shoot a 6-over-par 78, good for eighth place, while sophomore Kyra Feldman and junior Cole Davis carded a 9-over 81 to tie for 18th place at the final competitive round of high school golf on the calendar this year.

Henson and Greazel shared the seventh-best score of the day with five other groups but were granted the second-highest finish at 78 thanks to a cardback.

There were a total of 60 pairs of golfers in the 2A tournament. Johnston’s Taylor Sedivec and Nathan Petrak shot the medalist round of 75 with Cedar Rapids Washington’s Emma Sorg and Connor Neighbors a close second at 76.

The Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association also recently honored Henson as a first-team all-state selection in 4A. Henson shot a nine-hole average score of 41.93 and was one of 10 members of the all-state first team.

BCLUW seniors Jaelyn Allen and Lane Stanley paired up to shoot the only 81 of the Class 1A Co-Ed Tournament, which was played at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course in Marshalltown.

Ashley DeJong and Tate Starbeck of Clear Lake came away with the cardback tiebreaker for medalist honors, separating themselves from Edgewood-Colesburg’s Maddy Streicher and Ethan Streicher after both teams shot a 3-over-par 73.

The West Marshall contingent of seniors Karisa Blocker and Conley Petermeier posted a round of 94, tying for 38th place. Trojan juniors Whitney Edler and Caleb Keigan combined to shoot a 109, settling for 61st place in the 66-team field.
