The BCLUW Community School Board recently voted to dedicate the high school’s softball diamond in honor of longtime head coach David Lee, who started coaching BCL softball in the fall of 1976 and accumulated a career record of 991-539 in 39 years. Lee was inducted into the Iowa Girls Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame in 2008, and on Friday night in Conrad the high school diamond was officially renamed to David Lee Field. “I’m just so honored to be here and do this,” said Lee. “I’m just blessed, I’m absolutely blessed I was at this place at this time and had these kids and these parents, that’s what it’s all about.” A group of approximately 50 former players, the current BCLUW softball team and members of the school board joined Lee on the field for the dedication ceremony. “All of those numbers and stuff are nothing without the kids, the kids coming here tonight, that’s what’s meaningful,” said Lee. “It was just overwhelming. Without good kids, I’m not much.”
