One last game as a Bobcat for Canaday

MHS graduate selected for All-Star Series

The Marshalltown High School baseball team will be represented yet again at the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association’s Senior All-Star Series.

Bobcat senior Wade Canaday has been selected as an infielder for the Large Schools West squad, one of four comprised entirely of seniors from across the state. The All-Star Series will be played out over four days — Aug. 8-11 — at Merchants Park in Carroll.

Canaday was recently named to the all-CIML Iowa Conference first team in addition to the Class 4A all-North Central District first team after leading Marshalltown on both sides of the ball. He hit .378 with 13 doubles, four home runs and 31 RBIs while also posting an 8-2 record on the mound with a 1.54 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings pitched.

Canaday, a Morningside College recruit, closed out his career in the top 10 in a number of statistical categories as well: 128 hits (eighth), 36 doubles (sixth), 97 RBIs (seventh) and 425 at-bats (fifth).

He will play on the Large Schools West team coached by three members of the Central Iowa Metropolitan League. Head coach Michael Barta of Johnston will be assisted by Jeremy Heinen of Urbandale and Quinn O’Brien of Johnston. The Large West squad will start the series with a 5 p.m. game against Small West on Aug. 8, followed by a game against Small East at approximately 7 p.m. on Aug. 9 and a big-school battle against Large East on Aug. 10 at roughly 12:30 p.m.

The weekend wraps up with the consolation and championship games at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively, on Aug. 11.

Canaday joins the likes of Nate Vance and Kody Ricken (2018), Joe Rebik (2016) and Dylan Diveney (2014) as recent participants in the IHSBCA Senior All-Star Series.

Carroll and Marshalltown co-hosted the Iowa High School State Baseball Tournament for 10 years — from 1995-2204 — with Carroll entertaining Classes 1A and 3A and MHS hosting 2A and 4A.
