SPORTS SHORTS: GMG hosting golf tourney fundraiser

Green Mountain-Garwin High School is hosting its annual GMG Golf Tournament fund-raising event on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Oakwood Golf Course in Conrad.

The four-person best shot event has a 10 a.m. shotgun start, and registration begins at 9 a.m. Cost is $200 per team with additional hole sponsorships and corporate sponsorships available.

ISU vs. Michigan in Bahamas tourney

AMES — The Iowa State men’s basketball team will meet Michigan in the first game of the Battle 4 Atlantis, an annual tournament in the Bahamas.

The Cyclones and Wolverines will square off on Nov. 27 in an 11 a.m. game to be televised by ESPN. Win or lose, Iowa State will play again each of the following two days at Paradise Island, Bahamas. The Cyclones will face either Alabama or North Carolina in the second game.

Iowa State and Michigan haven’t met on the hardwood since 2013, when the Cyclones won a 77-70 contest at Hilton Coliseum in Ames.

Rounding out the bottom half of the bracket are Gonzaga, Oregon, Seton Hall and Southern Mississippi.
