SPORTS SHORTS: Rebels edged in tournament finale

MONTEZUMA — Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s volleyball team fell short in the Montezuma Tournament falling to Williamsburg in the championship game on Tuesday.

The Rebels lost to Williamsburg in two sets 21-12, 21-15, in the title bout.

G-R went undefeated in pool play, defeating GMG 21-6, 21-10, North Mahaska 21-17, 21-10, and Williamsburg 23-21, 21-13, 15-8.

For the tournament, junior Saari Kuehl led the team with 40 kills and 15 digs while freshman Emma McClintock led the team with 34 assists.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck (3-1) will travel to West Marshall (2-4) on Thursday.

Redhawk netters remain unbeaten

The Class 1A No. 4 North Tama volleyball team stayed perfect on the season, improving to 7-0 after defeating South Hardin and South Hamilton on Tuesday.

Over the weekend, the Redhawks won the Meskwaki Tournament by defeating Vinton-Shellsburg, Belle Plaine, Meskwaki and Roland-Story in pool play and then Vinton-Shellsburg in the championship match.

Senior Katie Kopriva led the team with 34 kills in the tournament while Takoa Kopriva led the team with 41 digs. Senior Isabel Sierra led with Redhawks in assists with 61 and senior Grace Thorsen posted 14 aces.

North Tama returns to action with its own tournament on Saturday in Traer.
