ELDORA — The West Marshall volleyball team was two points shy of sweeping South Hardin for its first NICL West Division win of the season, but the Trojans couldn’t close out the host Tigers and fell in five sets here Tuesday night.

South Hardin, instead, emerged with its first conference win, rallying for a 19-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-11 victory over West Marshall.

The Trojans led 23-18 in the third set but were unable to finish off the Tigers (6-3, 1-1).

West Marshall (2-9, 0-2) was led by Teresa Disney’s 14 kills and Renae Schaper’s 13 kills. Hana Hohnstein finished with 29 assists, 15 digs, seven kills and two service aces. Morgan Cripps paced the Trojan defense with 25 digs while serving 18-for-20 with three aces, Schaper added 14 digs and Disney chipped in seven digs and three aces.

West Marshall tests its mettle this weekend at the Waukee Tournament, taking on four ranked Class 4A and 5A teams in pool play. The Trojans will face Class 4A No. 14 Norwalk and No. 3 Sergeant Bluff-Luton as well as 5A No. 4 Waukee and No. 6 Pleasant Valley.
