Rebels crush Collins-Maxwell 74-14

GLADBROOK — Keagan Giesking and Eli Thede both ran for two touchdowns in the first half and the Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team clobbered Collins-Maxwell 74-14 in Friday’s 8-Man District 5 clash on Friday night at ‘The Pit.’

Giesking gave the Rebels (4-2, 4-0) a 16-0 lead with his scoring runs of 38 and 60 yards, and by the time Thede hit paydirt for the second time — on the first play of the second quarter — Gladbrook-Reinbeck led 48-0.

Thede reached the end zone from 56 and 58 yards away, Jace Petersen added a short touchdown run and Kale Hasselman’s fumble recovery for a score helped the Rebels roll to an early advantage. Cullen Eiffler connected with Cody Gebel for a 17-yard touchdown pass to bring the margin to 54-0 before the half.

Tom Smith tacked on touchdown runs of 3 and 33 yards and William Kiburis added a 3-yard score of his own for the final tally.

Collins-Maxwell got a pair of touchdown passes from Mason Markely to Brett Livesay spanning 3 and 25 yards in the fourth quarter to account for all the points for the visiting Spartans (3-4, 2-2). Markely threw for 150 yards and Livesay finished with 10 catches for 106 yards.

Giesking totaled 143 yards on just seven carries, Thede had three runs for 124 yards, and Smith finished with eight rushes for 63 yards.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck ran for 383 of its 411 total yards of offense, averaging more than 12 yards per rushing attempt while holding Collins-Maxwell to minus-3 yards on the ground.

The Rebels go on the road to Bussey next Friday night for a district contest with Twin Cedars.
