SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcat harriers compete in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE — The Marshalltown girls’ cross country team competed in the Knoxville Invitational on Tuesday at Pine Knolls Country Club.

The Bobcats finished in seventh place with a team score of 189 points out of 14 teams.

Leading MHS was Phoebe Hermanson, who scored eighth-place points with a time of 21 minutes, 21 seconds. Odaly Flores and Rachel Smith scored 37th and 45th place, respectively, in 23:47 and 24:09.

Rounding out the Bobcats’ top-5 was Makenna Ainsworth, who ran 24:19 to be scored as 46th place, while Kaci Uhde ran 24:42 to be scored 53rd place.

Jade Tejada ran 25 minutes to be scored 59th place and Veronica Herrera was scored 64th place after running a time of 25:19.

East Marshall also competed in the meet and finished in 10th place with a score of 265 points.

West Marshall nets first conference win

ACKLEY — The West Marshall volleyball team managed to finish what it started against AGWSR by taking down the Cougars in four sets, winning 25-16, 25-16, 12-25, 25-11 in Tuesday’s NICL West Division clash.

It was the first conference win for the Trojans (6-17, 1-3).

Hana Hohnstein served 21-for-22 and Grace de Neui served 17-for-18, both carving up six aces to go with their 20 assists for West Marshall. Morgan Cripps paced the defense with 20 digs, while Teresa Disney led the offense with 10 kills and eight digs. Attiyah Lazard added four kills and four blocks, Renae Schaper had seven kills and two blocks, and Peyton Halverson had six kills and three blocks.

West Marshall hosts East Marshall in Thursday’s conference match, and the Trojans go back out on the road for Saturday’s Madrid Tournament.
