SPORTS SHORTS: Comets go 2-1 at Roland-Story quad

STORY CITY — The BCLUW volleyball team competed in the Roland-Story tournament on Monday night.

Class 1A No. 13 BCLUW opened with a 21-11, 21-9 win over PCM and then followed with a 21-18, 21-10 win against South Hardin.

The Comets (15-8) dropped their final match against Roland-Story, 21-9, 14-21, 15-11.

Jade Hammers led BCLUW with 18 digs and while Lizzie Garber totaled 17 to go with 10 kills. Madison Ubben had a team-leading 15 kills to go with her 15 digs. Allison Engle led the team with 27 assists.

BCLUW will host Grundy Center on Thursday.

MCC netters sweep at Southeastern

WEST BURLINGTON — The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team competed in the Southeastern CC Triangular Invite on Sunday.

The Tigers (20-7) started the day with a 25-15, 25-19, 26-24 sweep over Oakton CC.

MCC closed out the day with a 25-6, 25-16, 25-19 win over Spoon River CC.

The Tigers will go back on the road to play John Wood CC on Wednesday in Quincy, Ill.
