Bobcats fall to top-rated Rams 51-18

PLEASANT HILL — The Marshalltown wrestling team opened the CIML Iowa Conference schedule with a 51-18 loss to Class 3A No. 1 Southeast Polk on the road Tuesday night.

The Bobcats (4-4, 0-1) got four wins to the Rams’ 10. Two of Marshalltown’s victories were over ranked opponents.

MHS heavyweight Jordan Anderson, rated fourth in IAwrestle.com’s newest rankings, pinned No. 9 Connor Brown in 4 minutes, 48 seconds, in the first match of the evening. Zach Bitker at 145 pounds started the second half of the dual with a 5-4 decision over Carter Martinson, who is ranked third at 138.

At 182, Coltin Grimm pinned Aiden Grimes in 1:14 for the Bobcats’ other bonus-point victory, while Saul Pantoja scored a 5-2 decision over Grant Vorwerk at 126.

Of Southeast Polk’s 10 match wins, five came by fall and one was a forfeit at 195. Seven of the Rams’ nine ranked wrestlers in the lineup got wins, including Gabe Christenson’s technical fall of newly ranked Carson Williams at 220. Williams, No. 7 in IAwrestle.com’s latest poll, lost to 195’s top-rated Christenson, 18-3.

Marshalltown is back in action with its first home meet of the season, hosting Waukee for a CIML Iowa Conference dual on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Bobcats travel to Waukee’s Al Garrison Duals on Saturday.
