MCC hands volleyball reins to interim coach Hanes

Frank Hanes

More than three months after being named the interim head coach, Frank Hanes has officially been promoted.

Marshalltown Community College on Friday announced that Hanes will become the Tigers’ new head coach after the holiday break, replacing former head coach Justin Hoskins who was suspended on Sept. 6 and resigned on Oct. 4.

This will be Hanes’ first collegiate head coaching position.

“I’m excited for this opportunity and look forward to building on the progress the program has experienced the last few seasons,” Hanes said in a release.

Hanes finished out a 2019 campaign in which the MCC volleyball team went 32-12 but failed to win an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference contest for the sixth year in a row since moving to NJCAA Division I athletics in 2014.

Hanes first joined the Tiger coaching staff as an assistant in 2018 after having spent four years as a practice player for the Iowa State University women’s team, three years coaching the Iowa Heart club team, and three years as the practice coordinator for the ISU men’s club team. Between seasons at MCC, Hanes served one season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Loyola-Chicago men’s volleyball team.

“I’m happy to have Frank as our next head volleyball coach,” said MCC athletic director John Kriebs. “In his short time as the interim head coach, he has proven he is up to the task and has a real desire to be part of the Tiger family. We look forward to seeing what coach Hanes can do and the direction he will take the program. His experience, credentials and time as a student-athletic are a great match for what our program needs.”
