Rolling over the competition

The Marshalltown bowling teams kept maintained their perfect records on Thursday with a pair of home wins over Mason City at the Wayward Social.

The Bobcat boys moved to 5-0 with a 3,033-2,617 win over the Mohawks while the girls also jumped to 5-0 with a 2,499-1,987 win.

“I am over the moon about it,” Marshalltown head coach DJ Wilder said. “I am very excited for both teams to see how they can finish out the year and going to the state qualifier with some positive momentum but still figuring out some things.”

Leading the boys’ team was Lucas Kramer rolled a 258 and 235 in his two individual games to lead the Bobcats with a 493.

“Lucas Kramer is other worldly when it comes to stepping on the lanes,” Wilder said. “Some of the stats that I keep outside of just score like first ball average, strike percentage and spare percentage. He has a 65 percent strike percentage, he converts spares at an 82 percent clip those are just phenomenal numbers.

“He’s on a pretty good tear right now as far as converting his spares and staying clean. That’s what you look for out of leader. Someone who can do those little things well.”

Hunter Dannen rolled a 410 which was followed by a 401 from Dylan Cooper. Rounding out the scoring was Logan Proffitt who rolled a 394 and Andru Wilder posted a 364.

According to Wilder, the only improvement the boys’ team can make is their efficiency to make the easy spares.

“The one thing they can key in on is makeable spares,” Wilder said. “We preach it everyday at practice and every meet. We have got to have spares. Everyone on my team can strike. I’ve seen it. I’ve watched them throw great balls and make strikes. Where we struggle is not being able to make a four-pin, single-pin spare which everyone on our team will tell you is the easiest thing to get but we struggle at it sometimes. Down the stretch those are the things that are going to make the difference for us.”

The Bobcats girls were led by Kylee Witt who rolled a 201 and 202 to post a team-leading 403.

“[Witt] really is [putting together a good season],” Wilder said. “She’s the one key factor that if she has a good year then for this girls’ team the sky is the limit. She’s proving that out for me the last few meets. She’s pulled it together. I’m really happy to see that the girls are watching he take that leadership role and kind of falling in behind.”

Behind Witt was Hannah Slifer who totaled a 358 and Sydney Dannen who rolled a 321. Rounding out the team’s scoring was Madison Pickett and Jordan May who posted a 296 and 264, respectively.

“At the end of last year they were starting buy in off each other and blowing up to their potential and we graduated no seniors last year,” Wilder said. “I knew going into this year the girls team can be something special if they believed in themselves and you are starting to see them believing in their selves.”

The Marshalltown bowlers will host Urbandale on Jan. 7 at 3:45 p.m.
