SPORTS SHORTS: Mustangs win, another Terrones record

LE GRAND — The East Marshall girls’ basketball team defeated Ankeny Christian 68-26 on Thursday.

East Marshall (4-4) opened the game with a 23-3 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

Leading the Mustangs was Olivia Terrones who posted a double-double of a team-leading 22 points and 12 assists. Notably, Terrones’ 12 assists set East Marshall’s school record for most assists in a game.

Ellie Hull also posted 17 points in the win.

East Marshall will host BCLUW on Friday at 6:15 p.m.

EM/GMG wrestling team pins a pair

HUDSON — The East Marshall/GMG wrestling team came away with a pair of wins in a triangular meet against Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center and host team Hudson on Thursday night.

The Mustangs defeated Hudson 56-21 with EM/GMG having eight wins by pin.

EM/GMG beat A-P/GC 75-6 in which the Mustangs also had eight wins decided by pin and two by forfeit.

Going undefeated with two pins on the night for the Mustangs were Dom Ridout (120), Dane Thompson (132), Tim Benson (145), Garrett Kerber (152), Samuel Bandstra (160), Conner Murty (195) and Isrrael Vargas (285).

East Marshall/GMG will travel to Story City to compete in the Jim Kinyon Norsemen Invitation on Saturday.

West Marshall matmen split at home

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall wresting team finished 1-1 in a hosted triangular against Denver and Sumner-Fredericksburg on Thursday.

The Trojans lost to Denver 54-30 but defeated Sumner-Fredericksburg 57-21.

West Marshall had four wrestlers go 2-0 in the meet — J.D. Downs (106), Ben Kielman (170), Kameron Malloy (182) and Elijah Meester (285).

West Marshall will compete at the Iowa Falls-Alden Tournament on Saturday.

South Tama 1-1 in WaMaC triangular

VAN HORNE — The South Tama wrestling team split its results in a triangular meet against Independence and host team Benton Community on Thursday.

The Trojans were defeated by Independence 51-24 but came away with a 57-18 win over meet host Benton Community.

South Tama had five wrestlers go undefeated in the meet which were Brody Chyma (106), Boden Koehler (145), Garrett Arp (152), Aaron Neave (195) and Kalem Schrock (220).

The Trojans will compete in the Pella Invitational on Saturday.

SH-BCLUW wrestling splits in Ackley

ACKLEY — The South Hardin-BCLUW wrestling team went 1-1 in a triangular against host team AGWSR and Tripoli on Thursday.

SH-BCLUW defeated Tripoli 66-18 but fell short against AGWSR. 48-35.

Class 2A No. 6 Carter Kolthoff (106) and No. 7 Taylor Kolthoff (120) both went 2-0 in the meet. Both Logan Aicher (145) and Michael Fuller (170) also went undefeated in the meet.

SH-BCLUW will compete in the North Polk tournament on Saturday.
