Tiger men toppled again by Kirkwood

CEDAR RAPIDS — The Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team suffered its second loss to Kirkwood this season, falling 89-73 to the NJCAA Division II No. 16 Eagles on Wednesday night.

Four players scored in double figures for the Eagles, led by Marshalltown High School graduate Luke Appel’s 20 points. He also paced Kirkwood (7-3) with seven rebounds.

Jaylin Scott scored a career-high 28 points for MCC (4-9), shooting 10-of-16 from the field with a 7-of-11 effort from 3-point range. Eric Amandio added 13 points and six rebounds, and Caleb Jacobs chipped in 11 points.

MCC goes to Indian Hills’ Bowling RV Classic this weekend in Ottumwa. On Friday the Tigers face Williston State College, and on Saturday MCC meets Western Oklahoma State College. Both games start at 4:30 p.m.
