Garza, Haliburton make midseason award lists

The University of Iowa’s Luka Garza and Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton were both named to the Lute Olson Award Midseason Watch List and the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list.

The Lute Olson Award is presented to the nation’s top non-freshman men’s basketball player. The Wooden Award is given to the nation’s top men’s basketball player regardless of class.

Garza is the only player in the country averaging more than 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. Garza lead the Big Ten with 22.1 points per game and is second in rebounds with 10.1 per game.

Haliburton has averaged 17.7 points per game and is ranked fourth nationally with a 3.28 assist-to-turnover ratio, is second in 3-point percentage at 42.5 and third in field-goal percentage at 52.6 percent.

The winner of the Lute Olson award will be presented in April at the site of the men’s NCAA Division I National Championship, while the Wooden Award is announced the week of the men’s Elite Eight round of the NCAA tournament.
