MCC scores season low in league loss

The Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team suffered its 10th straight loss, falling 65-42 to No. 25 Southeastern in Saturday’s Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Division I opener.

The Tigers (4-16, 0-1) were limited to a season-low 42 points on 29.6 percent shooting, going 16-for-54 from the field in the loss.

Caleb Jacobs scored 12 points to lead MCC and Craig Philip added 11 points and a team-leading seven rebounds in his first start. Jaylin Scott added six points, and JyDonn Griffith contributed six points and four boards in his first action this season with the Tigers.

MCC, however, was limited to fewer than 50 points for the second time this season. The Tigers rank 175th out of 205 D-I programs averaging 72.8 points per game.

Elias Ezenekwe scored a game-high 13 points to lead Southeastern (16-4, 1-0), and Carlos Lemus Jr. finished with 12 points. Aaris Bonds added nine points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Blackhawks.

MCC resumes ICCAC play with Wednesday’s game at Iowa Western in Council Bluffs. The Tigers host Northeast on Saturday.
