SPORTS SHORTS: West Marshall girls rally past AGWSR

ACKLEY — Avril Sinning scored a career-high 23 points, including nine in the fourth quarter to help the Class 3A No. 14 West Marshall girls’ basketball team overtake AGWSR 55-44 in an NICL West Division clash Friday.

Renae Schaper added 14 points, Katy Reyerson had nine points, four rebounds and four assists, and Karlyn Snider tallied seven points, four steals and three assists for the Trojans (10-1, 7-1).

Alyssa Hames and MaKenna Kuper had 12 points apiece and Rachel Sicard scored 10 for the host Cougars (10-5, 5-3).

BCLUW girls fall to Grundy Center

GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy Center pounded the paint and beat back the BCLUW girls’ basketball team, 46-32, in Friday’s NICL West Division contest.

Bailey Reding had a game-high 16 points for the Spartans (12-2, 8-1), Lainy Thoren added 12 points and Leslie Homeister had 10 more.

Allison Engle led BCLUW (11-6, 4-4) with nine points and four rebounds, Chloe Walters had eight points, while Payton Pekarek and Lizzie Garber both pitched in with six points.

Trojan boys snap four-game slide

ACKLEY — Three players scored in double figures as the West Marshall boys’ basketball team bounced AGWSR, 49-45, in Friday’s NICL West Division game.

Caleb Keigan led the Trojans (4-9, 3-4) with 15 points, Gabe Jones had 13 points and Manny Lazard stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.

Luke Starr led AGWSR (4-10, 3-5) with 16 points and Jaden Penning put up 14 more.
