SPORTS SHORTS: Wolverines fall in rematch with C-M

MAXWELL — The GMG girls’ basketball team succumbed to Collins-Maxwell for the second time this season, falling victim of the Iowa Star Conference South Division sweep in Tuesday’s 57-24 win for the host Spartans.

GMG was led by Belle Duncan, who made three 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 12 points. Ashlyn Plowman pitched in with six points for the Wolverines (3-10, 2-5), who host Colo-NESCO on Friday night.

Janesville boys deal Rebels defeat

JANESVILLE — Janesville sophomore Wiley Sherburne matched his career-high with 26 to lead the Wildcats past Gladbrook-Reinbeck, 62-50, in Monday’s non-conference boys’ basketball pairing.

Ben McGrath added 12 points and Joey Carlson had 10 more for Janesville (12-2), which led 31-21 at the half.

Tyler Tscherter racked up a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead Gladbrook-Reinbeck (10-2), which lost for the second time in three games. William Kiburis added 11 points but on 3-of-19 shooting, while also leading the Rebels with seven assists.

Dylan Riffey finished with seven points, Eli Thede had six points and five steals, and Cullen Eiffler had six points as well.

STC’s lead shortlived at Grundy Center

GRUNDY CENTER — The South Tama County boys’ basketball team overtook Grundy Center for a moment, only to see the Spartans storm back for a 45-37 non-conference win on Monday night.

Lincoln Kingbird led the Trojans (0-12) with 14 points and six rebounds, Tyler Moran added 10 points and Tyrin Lasley tallied nine points.

South Tama trailed 21-17 at the half before rallying for a 30-27 lead going into the fourth quarter. But Grundy Center (7-5) outscored STC 18-7 in the final frame to gain its fourth-straight win.

G-R girls get through Janesville in OT

JANESVILLE — The Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls’ basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak by beating host Janesville in overtime, 45-40, in Monday’s non-conference clash.

Belen Ellenberger led the Rebels (3-11) with 11 points, while Katie Clark came away with nine points and 13 rebounds. Saari Kuehl had eight points and 11 rebounds, as Gladbrook-Reinbeck pulled down 15 offensive boards.

Emma McClintock chipped in eight points, making a pair of 3-pointers, and had two blocked shots.

G-R outscored Janesville (5-10) by a 9-4 margin in the overtime period.

South Tama girls downed by Spartans

GRUNDY CENTER — The South Tama County girls’ basketball team suffered its 13th loss in as many games, falling 57-24 to Grundy Center in Monday’s non-conference matchup.

The Trojans were led by Tylese Rosenberger with 11 points. Adriana Cervantes came in off the bench to contribute eight points.

The win was the fourth in a row for Grundy Center (11-2).
