Iowa defensive back skipping senior season
IOWA CITY — Iowa defensive back Geno Stone became the first Hawkeye to declare for the 2020 NFL Draft on Monday.
The New Castle, Pa., native totaled 70 tackles, three tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and one interception this past season.
“Since the bowl game, I have had plenty of time to think deeply about my future and weight the pros and cons of my options,” Stone said in a post to Twitter. “With that said after serious discussion with my family, confidantes and coaches (and a lot of prayers), I have decided to Declare for the 2020 NFL Draft! Without God, none of this would be possible.
“Thank you Hawkeye Nation for being the best fans in the world. I’m going to miss running out to 70,000 fans under the light at Kinnick against the best teams in the nation. You guys are amazing have become like family to me.”
Stone was named to the all-Big Ten second-team by conference coaches.
In his career, Stone played in 39 games and finished with 126 total tackles, six interceptions, 13 pass break ups and four forced fumbles.
