Cyclone matmen outlast NDSU, 22-16

AMES _ The No. 19 Iowa State wrestling team (10-5, 7-1 Big 12) ended its dual season with a 22-16 victory over North Dakota State (10-4, 6-2 Big 12) Sunday evening in Hilton Coliseum.

Iowa State won six matches and the takedown battle, 16-7.

The win gave the Cyclones a share of the Big 12 dual title at 7-1. ISU’s seven conference wins in 2019-20 are the most in school history.

Iowa State fell down 7-0 after dropping the first two matches at 157 and 165 pounds.

Sam Colbray recorded three points for the Cyclones at 174 pounds with a 7-3 victory over Luke Weber.

Marcus Coleman dominated his match in a 15-4 win over T.J. Pottinger at 184, and Gannon Gremmel tied the match at 10-10 with a victory over Brandon Metz at 285. Alex Mackall tallied a 6-3 victory over McGwire Midkiff at 125 to give the Cyclones the lead, but it went back to the Bison after Todd Small injury defaulted at 133.

At 141, Ian Parker was in complete control over Sawyer Degen and got the pin in the third period. ISU’s Jarrett Degen secured the team victory with a 4-3 decision over Jaden Van Maanen at 149 pounds.

Iowa State gets set for the 2020 Big 12 Championship, March 7-8 at The BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
