AMES — Chrislyn Carr sank three free-throws with 1.2 seconds left to give the Texas Tech women’s basketball team a 77-74 victory over Iowa State on Sunday at Hilton Coliseum.

The Red Raiders (16-8, 5-8) had taken a six-point lead on back-to-back 3-pointers by Andrayah Adams, the last with 37 seconds left to break a 68-all tie. The Cyclones chiseled Texas Tech’s lead all the way back down to nothing before the Red Raiders got bailed out by Rae Johnson’s fifth foul.

With time winding down on the game clock, Carr stepped back to attempt a 3-point shot from well beyond the arc and was fouled by Johnson, although the Cyclones refuted the call vehemently.

Carr sank all three shots and Iowa State used its final timeout to advance the ball beyond half court. Head coach Bill Fennelly drew up a final play but the Cyclones failed to get off the potential tying 3-pointer as the clock expired.

Texas Tech center Brittany Brewer had 27 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Lexi Gordon added 16 points and Carr finished with 14 points, nine assists and five steals.

Iowa State was paced by Ashley Joens with 20 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Johnson added 17 points, Maggie Espenmiller-McGraw tallied 14 points and six assists, but had eight of the Cyclones’ 20 turnovers.

Kristin Scott was limited to 10 points and eight rebounds by Brewer, who leads the country in blocked shots.

Iowa State returns to action Wednesday with a road game at Kansas State.
