SPORTS SHORTS: East Marshall handles Don Bosco

GILBERTVILLE — Kodie Hoskey spun a one-hit shutout and the East Marshall softball team toppled Don Bosco 11-0 in six innings here Friday.

Six of East Marshall’s 14 hits went for extra bases. Leadoff hitter Reagan McIlrath went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and three runs scored, and Rayne McIlrath was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Catelyn Fisher, Callyn Curphy, Morgan Neuroth and Hoskey each had two hits, including doubles for Fisher and Neuroth, and Kennedy Wheater’s lone hit was a run-scoring double.

Hoskey struck out nine and walked one, allowing only a double in the fourth inning by Kennedi Purdy.

East Marshall (7-1) visits West Marshall on Monday.

West Marshall outlasts South Hardin

ELDORA — The West Marshall baseball team managed only four hits but still outlasted South Hardin for an 8-7 victory in NICL West Division play Friday.

The Trojans (6-1) trailed 6-5 after five innings but outscored the host Tigers (2-2) 3-1 the rest of the way for the win. Relief pitcher Peyton Hart picked up the win for his three innings of work on the mound, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Kaden Davis had an RBI double and drove in two runs to lead the Trojan bats. Hart also plated a pair of runs, Jeremy Sly drove in the eventual game-winning run with a bases-loaded bunt, and Cody Braddy had his first career hit. Brayden Evertsen and Gabe Jones added singles for West Marshall.

Mustang baseball gives way to AGWSR

GILMAN — The East Marshall baseball team slipped to 0-7 with a 7-4 loss to AGWSR on Friday night.

The Mustangs led briefly, going up 1-0 after the first inning, but AGWSR scored three times in the third, twice in the fourth and twice more in the fifth to take the lead for good.

Logan Bowie got the loss for East Marshall, pitching 3 2/3 innings, while Jaron Johnson provided a boost to the bullpen with 3 1/3 innings of solid relief.

Wesley Hamor led the Mustang bats, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Landon Elliott was 3-for-3 with a run scored. Dane Thompson had two hits and scored twice.
