SPORTS SHORTS: East Marshall shuts down Roland-Story

LE GRAND — East Marshall senior Kodie Hoskey pitched a four-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts to help the Mustangs make quick work of Roland-Story, 4-0, in Tuesday’s non-conference clash.

Hoskey walked four but scattered four singles across seven scoreless innings for the win as East Marshall improved to 9-1.

The Mustangs also scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by Hoskey’s two-run, two-out double and Callyn Curphy’s subsequent two-run single.

Hannah Birks had two hits and scored a run to lead the East Marshall offense. Reagan McIlrath, Emma Pfantz and Morgan Neuroth also contributed one hit, including a double for Neuroth.

Vilez grand slam powers Mustangs

ZEARING — Hunter Vilez hit a grand slam and the East Marshall baseball team picked up its second-straight win, stifling Colo-NESCO 14-1 in five innings here Tuesday night.

The Mustangs (2-7) scored seven times in the top of the second inning and piled on four more on the Vilez homer in the third.

Zach Jacobson finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs. Landon Elliott added a two-run double and scored three times. Jordan Swift also went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Eight different players accounted for East Marshall’s 10 hits in the win. Kam Monk struck out seven and allowed only three hits in his five-inning complete game.
