SPORTS SHORTS: Mustangs move to 11-1

GLADBROOK — East Marshall softball strolled to a 10-0 victory Thursday at Gladbrook-Reinbeck, holding the Rebels to three hits.

Mustangs pitcher Kodie Hoskey struck out 10 in the shutout victory and collected a hit and RBI as well. Morgan Neuroth led East Marshall going 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.

Emily Else took the loss for the Rebels, giving up 10 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits and seven walks. Megan Cooley, Brianna Strohbehn and Ashlyn Moore had hits for G-R.

Two Trojan walk-offs

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall baseball team added two more walk-off wins, sweeping Denver on Thursday night.

Kaden Davis drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh in the opener, a 4-3 Trojan triumph, and Brayden Evertsen’s grand slam lifted West Marshall to a 7-6 win in the nightcap.

Kinnick Christensen struck out seven in a complete-game pitching performance in the opener, and Will Dawley struck out six in 6 1/3 innings of relief for the win in game two.

Mustangs top Falcons

PARKERSBURG — Jaron Johnson pitched six shutout innings and the East Marshall baseball team beat Aplington-Parkersburg 6-0 on Thursday night. Johnson struck out four and allowed only four hits.

Jordan Swift was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI to lead East Marshall, which totaled eight hits. Eli Curtis and Wesley Hamor doubled.

Comets clip Bearcats

CONRAD — Kiersten Kruse and Abby Feldpausch combined on a five-hitter as the BCLUW softball team topped North Butler 2-1 on Thursday night.

The Comets broke a 1-all tie on a throwing error in the fourth, as Kenna Paxson doubled and her courtesy runner Emma Hoover scored on Feldpausch’s misplayed grounder.
