Bobcats finish sixth in Cedar Falls Invitational

CEDAR FALLS — Marshalltown boys’ golf coach Lucas Johnson was happy with his team’s consistent scores Tuesday afternoon in the Tiger Invite hosted by Cedar Falls — but bogeys befell the Bobcats en route to a sixth-placed team finish and no individual top-10 finishers at the Beaver Hills Golf Course.

“The course was playing tough, and it’s one that is relatively new to most of our guys,” Johnson said. “Knowing that we’ll head east again for the district meet, this was a good chance to see how we stack up against many of the teams we’ll see in postseason play.”

Junior Grant Greazel continued to lead the Bobcats with a 7-over 79 and a 13th-place finish in the individual standings. Colin Schmit wasn’t far behind with a 9-over 81, while his brother Ryan Schmit finished third on the team with a 10-over 82. Drake Polley’s 12-over 84 rounded out the top four scores for Marshalltown, who finished behind winners Cedar Falls, Waukee, Cedar Rapids Washington, Cedar Rapids Prairie and Linn-Mar with a 326.

The Bobcats will play in their conference meet Sept. 29 at Highland Park Golf Course in Mason City.
