Mustangs swept by another ranked foe

LE GRAND — The East Marshall volleyball team suffered its third-straight defeat at the hands of a ranked North Iowa Cedar League opponent, falling in three sets to Class 2A No. 14 Aplington-Parkersburg on Thursday night by scores of 25-16, 25-8, 25-10.

The Mustangs (5-9) were led offensively by Lizzy Vesely with five kills, while Clare Veren and Kennedy Wheater added three kills apiece. Setters Noelia Aguilera and Faith Bandstra both finished with seven assists.

Wheater’s two blocks led the defense while Vesely had another. J.J. Westendorf totaled 15 digs and Camy Weeks added another nine digs. The Mustangs served 34-for-35 as a team with three aces, led by Veren and Emma Pfantz going 7-for-7 with one ace each.

East Marshall goes to the South Tama tournament on Saturday morning, where the Mustangs will meet Belle Plaine, BGM and Perry in their round-robin pool.
