West Marshall fares well in home invite

STATE CENTER — West Marshall junior Nicolas Thompson won the individual crown on Monday at the Trojan Cross Country Invitational at Lincoln Valley Golf Course.

Thompson timed in at 18 minutes, 12 seconds, to finish five seconds ahead of Greene County’s Logan Woodruff for the title. The Trojans, however, settled for sixth place in the eight-team meet.

Dylan Thompson was next to cross the finish line for West Marshall, scoring 24th in 21:05, and Luke Coulter was next in 31st place (22:01). Josiah Hand (39th, 22:40) and Johnathan Downs (47th, 23:49) rounded out the team scoring for the Trojans.

On the girls’ side, West Marshall went 2-3 individually to take the team runner-up spot behind Class 1A No. 15 Collins-Maxwell. The Spartans scored 36 points to hold off host West Marshall (42) for the meet crown.

Emelia Becker and Lilly Buck finished 2-3 for the Trojans, finishing in 22:28 and 23:01, respectively. Jadyn Bunting picked up 10th place in 24:18, while Adisyn Young (17th, 25:25) and Peyton Smith (18th, 25:39) completed the team tally.
