Comets get clipped by Bulldogs

Jesse Moore

OGDEN — BCLUW senior quarterback Jesse Moore threw for five touchdowns, but it wasn’t quite enough to get the Comets through the first round of the Class A state football playoffs.

Host Ogden scored the go-ahead touchdown and vital extra-point kick with two minutes remaining, leaving BCLUW on the short end of a narrow outcome. The Comets were eliminated from the playoffs, 32-31, while Ogden (4-2) advanced to face top-ranked Grundy Center in next Friday’s second round.

“It was just a lot of small things that added up,” head coach Dustin Grothoff said of his Comets’ demise. “This was kind of similar to how our season went — it was really close like a lot of our games.”

Noah Gallentine caught three touchdown passes, Nick Pieper had one and Logan Aicher another for BCLUW, which entered the game with just one touchdown pass all season.
