SPORTS SHORTS: East Marshall/GMG wins two in triangular at Dike

DIKE — East Marshall/GMG wrestling was 2-0 in a triangular with Dike-New Hartford/Gladbrook-Reinbeck and Wapsie Valley on Thursday night, winning one match convincingly and the other in a close contest.

Against DNH/G-R, the Mustangs were consistent in a 48-24 result. Skyler Wright won via decision at 120 pounds. Class 2A No. 2 at 126 pounds Dom Ridout pinned Ty Deering at 132 pounds, beginning a stretch of seven straight EM/GMG victories. Dane Thompson (145), Sam Bandstra (170) and Logan Walton (187) all won via pins — Kordell Negrete (138), Tim Benson (152) and Garrett Kerber (160) won via decision. Conner Murty, the No. 4 wrestler in Class 2A at 220 pounds, pinned No. 10 heavyweight Jacob Loehr in the final win of the match for the Mustangs.

Against Wapsie Valley the Mustangs had to grind out the win, with Ridout pinning Isiah Price for the team’s first points of the match. Another five-win streak followed with Thompson, Kerber, Banstra and Walton pinning their opponents. Benson won via another decision.

The last points for East Marshall were won by Murty via forfeit. The Mustangs won 39-33 despite not getting a point out of the final two matches.

The Mustangs host their Mustang Duals in Le Grand on Saturday.
