SPORTS SHORTS: G-R eases way into district final

REINBECK — Gladbrook-Reinbeck is now two wins away from reaching Wells Fargo Arena.

The Rebels defeated Tripoli 63-27 in the Class 1A District 5 semifinal Thursday night behind a game-high 29 points from William Kiburis — outscoring Tripoli by himself.

Senior guard Dylan Riffey scored 13 points of his own, while Caleb Egesdal scored seven and Tristen Sanford-Anders had six. The Rebels held a 36-10 lead at the halftime break and didn’t let up in the second half.

Tripoli ends the season at 13-9, while G-R moves to 16-3 and will travel to Independence for the district final matchup with Maquoketa Valley Tuesday night. The Wildcats upset Dunkerton to reach this stage. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Mustangs end season at D-NH

DIKE — East Marshall’s frustrating 2020-21 boys’ basketball season came to an end Thursday night at the hands of Class 2A No. 5 Dike New-Hartford.

The Wolverines handed East Marshall a 73-47 defeat to move to 19-2 on the season. The Mustangs dropped to 7-13.

Seniors carried the day for the Mustangs, as Ethan Espenscheid, Logan Bowie and Drew Runner combined to score 45 of the team’s points. Bowie led the team with 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Drew Runner scored 15 points, and Espenscheid scored 11 while getting nine rebounds.
