COUNCIL BLUFFS — Deon’ta Lagway scored a team-leading 16 points off the bench and the Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team defeated NJCAA Division II No. 14 Iowa Western CC, 77-69, on Saturday night.

The Tigers (7-1, 7-1) have won seven-straight since opening the season in defeat, netting three wins over ranked teams along the way.

Lagway’s coast-to-coast layup put the Tigers in front for good, 63-62, and back-to-back 3-pointers by Leonard Wilson followed to help MCC turn the tide on the host Reivers (4-4, 4-4) in the second half.

Iowa Western led 38-31 at halftime before getting outscored 46-31 by MCC after the break.

Wilson and Nuha Sagnia scored 14 points apiece and Ike Sheppard had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers, who host D-I No. 11 Indian Hills (7-1, 7-1) on Wednesday night.

Dewayne Vass scored 19 points off the bench to lead Iowa Western, but only four after halftime as the Reivers shot 10-for-35 from the field and 1-for-14 from 3-point range after intermission.
