South Tama County junior JoJo Tyynismaa, pictured in a May 2019 file photo, represents half of the area’s six qualifiers for this week’s Drake Relays. Tyynismaa is seeded in the top-7 in all three of her events: the 100-meter dash, the 100 hurdles and the 400 hurdles. BCLUW senior Lizzie Garber joins Tyynismaa in the 100 hurdles as well. On the boys’ side, Marshalltown senior Deonté Dean will represent the Bobcats in two events. Dean is seeded tied for sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.96 seconds, and he also anchors for teammates Malachi Holmes, Jaiden Buchanan and Jayzek Lee in Marshalltown’s 4×100 relay. The high school portion of the Drake Relays will be conducted on Thursday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
