Heckenlaible leads No. 12 Jaguars past Bobcat boys

ANKENY — The Marshalltown boys’ soccer team surrendered five unanswered goals in the second half as Class 3A No. 12 Ankeny Centennial tormented MHS in a 9-2 triumph on Thursday night.

The Bobcats (4-7) scored just 40 seconds into the match to take an early lead, but they didn’t tally again until after the host Jaguars (7-3) had scored four-straight. Marshalltown fought to within 4-2 with its goal with 11 minutes remaining in the second half, but the Bobcats couldn’t break the ice after the intermission.

Zach Robson and Richard Toe scored goals for Marshalltown. Ernesto Tellez made eight saves but surrendered seven goals in net. Kale McKibben allowed two goals but didn’t register a save.

Andrew Heckenlaible racked up six goals for Centennial, while Jack Heckenlaible, Michael Poitry and Braden Thiele each scored once. Reece Frazell had three saves on five shots for the Jaguars, while Jonathon Stockwell made one save in the final 17 minutes of play.

Marshalltown goes back out on the road next Tuesday, traveling to face Mason City.
