SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcat girls finish eighth in Waukee Relays

WAUKEE — The Marshalltown girls’ track and field team was led by a second-place finish in the shuttle hurdle relay on its way to an eighth-place finish in the Waukee Relays Thursday afternoon.

The Bobcats had 32 team points, with a quarter of them coming from the one minute, 15.24 second time.

The Bobcat with the most individual points was thrower Lilly Duff. Duff finished in fifth place in the shot put with a distance of 31 feet, 5.75 inches. She added an eighth-place finish in the discus at 83-6.

Sara Huffman placed fourth in the long jump, reaching 15-6 at her best. Right behind her was Amaya Moore in fifth with a distance of 15-5. Moore finished ninth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:23.78. Mia Rasmusson and Valeria Becerra scored points in the 100 hurdles with eighth and 10th-place finishes, respectively.

Odaly Flores scored ninth place in the 800, finishing in 2:47.51.

East Marshall splits golf dual at South Hardin

ELDORA — The East Marshall boys’ golf team swept the medal haul at Thursday’s NICL West Division dual meet with South Hardin.

The Mustangs won the dual 203-211 at Pine Lake Country Club, while also taking the top two individual spots. Seth Freese won medalist honors with his round of 46, while Ethan Espenscheid was runner-up with a 47. Ethan Lamb’s 54 and Toby Ryan’s 56 rounded out the team scoring.

On the girls’ side, South Hardin defeated East Marshall 251-265. The Tigers’ Madison Mayfeld won medalist honors with a 49, while Marissa Duffy’s 53 took runner-up for the Mustangs.

East Marshall’s team scoring included a 67 from Camy Weeks, a 69 from Kennedy Boliver and a 76 by Addison Dobson.

Shiraishi’s two goals lifts MCC

WEST BURLINGTON — Fumiya Shiraishi scored two goals and the seventh-ranked Marshalltown Community College men’s soccer team defeated Southeastern 3-1 on Wednesday.

Shiraishi scored three minutes into the match and again 14 minutes into the second half to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Southeastern cut the deficit in half, benefitting from an own goal by MCC, before Pedro Casado’s goal returned the Tigers (2-0, 1-0) to a two-goal advantage.

Guilherme Pereira assisted on both second-half goals for MCC, which got two saves in the first half from David Giraldo and four by Rainer Hauss after the intermission.

The Tigers host Hawkeye CC in a 1 p.m. match Saturday.
