SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcats compete on blue oval
DES MOINES — Marshalltown boys’ track ran Saturday at the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake Stadium, and picked up a number of place-winners in the process.
Deonte Dean finished second in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.08 seconds. Malachi Holmes was the runner-up in the long jump with a peak distance of 19 feet, 11 3/4 inches. Conner Smith placed third in the 3,200 with a sub-10 minute time of 9:56.26. Dwight Joar finished fifth in the high jump at 5-6 and sixth in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 16.02.
The Bobcats had two relays place as well — Jaiden Buchanan, Holmes, Aaron Seberger and Dean were fifth in the 4×200 relay at 1:32.16, while Holmes, Buchanan, Mannie Kparyea and Dean finished sixth in the 4×100 (44.41).
Bobcat girls run at Jim Duncan Invitational
DES MOINES — The Bobcat girls track and field team was at the Jim Duncan Invitational Saturday, where Lilly Duff set a personal best in the discus toss and took home a sixth-place finish.
Duff threw a personal record of 100 feet, 10 inches, just one inch away from tying for fifth place.
Marshalltown’s next meet is a Tuesday afternoon invite at Cedar Falls.
