Clark and Donarski invited to U19 trials

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — An impressive season for freshmen women’s basketball players in the state of Iowa will carry over into the offseason.

University of Iowa’s Caitlin Clark and Iowa State’s Lexi Donarski both have been invited to participate in the 2021 USA Basketball Women’s U19 World Cup Team Trials, the program’s selection committee announced Wednesday.

Clark, a second-team All-American, is the only returning member of the 2019 U19 team from the United States that won gold medals in Japan.

Donarski was the unanimous Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year after averaging 13 points per game for the Cyclones.

“It is exciting to see another one of our players get the opportunity to be a part of USA Basketball,” said Iowa State head coach Bill Fennelly. “This is a great chance for Lex to compete with some of the best young players in the country. I know she will represent herself and our program in a great way.”
