Gilbert out front in 3A boys’ state golf at Elmwood

Weather delays in the morning did not deter good golf from being played at Elmwood Country Club Thursday in the first round of the Class 3A boys’ state golf meet.

The team standings were paced by Gilbert, who shot a team score of 31-over 311 to hold a 14-shot advantage over Solon and a 17-shot lead over Spirit Lake.

The Tigers were paced by Brock Snyder’s 5-over 75, which has the sophomore in a tie for second place — three shots behind leader Hogan Hansen of Waverly-Shell Rock. The junior shot 2-over 72 and carded four birdies on the day.

Tied for second with Synder are Solon freshman Jack McCarty and Spirit Laker senior Jackson Laven, also with 75s. Spirit Lake’s Mason Weeks rounds out the top five individuals with a 6-over 76.

Tee times for Friday’s final round action start at 10 a.m. on holes 1 and 10.
