Grinnell gets walk-off win against West Marshall

GRINNELL — The West Marshall baseball team altered its schedule because of the rain and traveled to Grinnell on Thursday night, falling 1-0 to the host Tigers in eight innings.

West Marshall sophomore pitcher Peyton Hart had a no-hitter through 6 1/3 innings one night after teammate Kinnick Christensen tossed a no-no to beat Saydel.

Neither team broke through on the scoreboard until Grinnell (3-0) did in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Brady Steward reached on a walk and scored on Will Doty’s two-out single in walk-off fashion. Doty had Grinnell’s only two hits against Hart, who took the hard-luck loss. Hart allowed four walks (two intentional) while striking out five.

Kaden Davis had two hits for the Trojans (3-1), Cody Braddy had another and Hart added a single against Grinnell hurler Owen Coffman, who struck out 12 and walked one in his complete-game performance.
