Henson and Feldman tip scales for MHS golfers

Amber Henson and Kyra Feldman

MASON CITY — The Marshalltown girls’ golf team made itself right at home on the road, and the dual meet victory came back with them.

MHS junior Amber Henson birdied both par 5s and Kyra Feldman came through with a career-low round as the Bobcats beat host Mason City 170-193 on Tuesday at Mason City Country Club.

Henson finished as meet medalist with her even-par round of 36, feasting on a pair of par 5s and posting four pars and two bogeys. Feldman shot her career-low for a nine-hole meet with her 4-over 40, which was good for runner-up medalist honors. Brynn Van Buren added a 46 and Norah Wilson carded a 48 to complete the Bobcats’ team scoring.

Mason City is never an easy road trip,” said MHS head coach Lucas Johnson. “The last time we went up there in 2019, they beat us by two shots 192-190, so to improve by 22 strokes since shows the growth this team is making.”

Sophie Lunning led Mason City with a 45 and Alyssa Alert added a 46.

Marshalltown closes its home schedule with today’s make-up meet against Ames, hosting the Little Cyclones in a 3:30 p.m. dual at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course.
