SPORTS SHORTS: Rebels double down on ranked Sailors, 4-2

REINBECK — Aiden Hunemuller and Isaac Clark both scored a pair of goals as the Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys’ soccer team doubled up on Class 1A No. 7 Waterloo Columbus (8-8), beating the Sailors 4-2 on Tuesday night.

Ethan Gienger recorded three assists and Tyler Nolder got the other as the Rebels (4-7) snapped a four-game losing skid.

Max Anderson made eight saves in net for GC/G-R.

The Rebels return to the pitch tonight with a home game against Hudson.

Clippers ward off STC/EM boys in WaMaC soccer

TAMA — One first-half goal was enough as the Class 2A No. 13 Clear Creek Amana boys’ soccer team edged South Tama/East Marshall in Tuesday’s WaMaC Conference clash, 1-0.

Ben George got the lone tally for the Clippers (10-4), scoring on an assist from Harrison Cory.

South Tama/East Marshall got nine shots on goal, but none of them escaped CCA keeper Wes Quinlan.

Armando Jimenez made three saves in net for STC/EM (6-8), which visits Marion in conference play Friday.

Trojan girls no match for No. 5 Clear Creek Amana

TIFFIN — Seven different players scored goals as the Class 2A No. 5 Clear Creek Amana girls’ soccer team shut out South Tama/East Marshall on Tuesday night, 8-0, in WaMaC Conference play.

The Clippers (12-0) were led by Lauren Riggle, who had two goals and two assists. Ellen Austin had one goal and three assists, while Avery Woodward had one goal and two assists in the win.

Shelby Graham made 12 saves in net for STC/EM as she was faced with 20 shots on goal. The Trojans (1-10) are on the road again Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. varsity-only contest against Oskaloosa.
