SPORTS SHORTS: Indianola’s lineup too deep for MHS girls

INDIANOLA — The Marshalltown girls’ swimming and diving team managed to win five events but fell to Indianola, 114-70, in Thursday’s CIML dual meet.

The Bobcats got victories from their 200-yard medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams, both comprised of Averie Wittkop, Taylor Jones, Lesli Waltermire and Maeve Janssen. Waltermire won the 100 freestyle, Wittkop took the 100 backstroke, and Abby Tollefson captured first place in the diving competition as well.

Taylor Jones took second in the 100 breaststroke and Waltermire scored silver in the 200 freestyle, but Indianola’s roster depth made it hard on the Bobcats to break into the top-two.

The Bobcats host Ames for Senior Night on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Marshalltown YMCA/YWCA.
