ISU’s Mevis selected for Big 12 laurel

AMES — Iowa State senior placekicker Andrew Mevis was honored for his performance at Kansas State, earning Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week and Lou Groza Award “Star of the Week” honors.

Mevis didn’t miss in Iowa State’s 33-20 win at Kansas State, making all four of his field goal attempts and both of his point-after kicks. His four made field goals was a career high, and the senior also produced four touchbacks on seven kickoffs.

He connected on field goals of 44, 41, 41 and 40 yards.

Mevis ranks 12th nationally in field goals made per game (1.67) and is 10-of-12 on the season. His 54-yard field goal at UNLV ties for the seventh-longest kick in school history.
