South Tama qualifies two for Fort Dodge

SOLON — Tommy Tyynismaa and James Brant are heading to Fort Dodge next week. The No. 18 South Tama boys’ cross country duo qualified for the Class 3A state meet Wednesday afternoon.

Tyynismaa finished sixth with a time of 16 minutes, 40.2 seconds, while Brant was close behind in 10th and finished in 17:04.3 at the Trojans’ Class 3A State Qualifier site.

Braxten Rohrs was the third-best runner for South Tama, finishing in 37th after running an 18:24.7. Trusten Rosenberger was 42nd with a time of 18:41.6.

The Trojan boys finished fifth in the team standings with a score of 142, 42 points out of a state qualifying spot in the top-three.

South Tama’s girls team did not field a full squad. The best finisher for the Trojans was JoJo Tyynismaa in 23rd place with a time of 20:55.9. She was 30 seconds out of a qualifying spot and eight places short.

Mary Kate Frakes finished 42nd and ran the race in 22:12.1.

Class 3A state track takes place in Fort Dodge on Friday, Oct. 29.
