Bobcat bowlers blast Polar Bears in season-opener

The Marshalltown girls’ and boys’ bowling teams tipped off the new season with blowout victories on Tuesday night at Wayward Social, walloping Des Moines North on the lanes.

The MHS boys blasted the Polar Bears 3,110-1,461, while the Bobcat girls prevailed 1,954-935.

The Marshalltown boys got the season off to a blistering start thanks to the opening game for senior Demitri Ferneau. He rolled a 288 game to start the meet and finished with a 177 for a match-high 465 series.

Damon Borton posted a pair of strong games for a 225-195–420 series, followed by Xander Pickett (224-156–380), Dylan Cooper (210-165–375) and Aaron Ratte (193-174–367). Dru Wilder rounded out the Bobcat lineup (194-168–362).

On the girls’ side, senior Sydney Dannen started with a match-high game of 195 and accompanied it with a 170 for a 365 series. Madison Pickett was four pins back in both games, rolling a 191-166–357 series. Autumn Thompson (139-112–251), Sydney May (101-101–202) and Devin Peterson (102-64–166) closed out the varsity lineup.

The Bobcats resume play on Monday with their first road trip, taking on Johnston in a 3:30 p.m. dual meet at Gameday Lanes in Des Moines.
