Bobcat soccer players earn honorable mention

A difficult campaign for Marshalltown girls soccer ended with only one win, but five Bobcats were awarded honorable mention all-conference by the CIML Iowa Conference coaches.

Freshman Claire Close, sophomores Carroll Gomez-Reyes and Aubrie Tejada, junior Rachel Jacobs, and senior Kathryn Johnson were honorable mentions for Marshalltown.

Johnson and Close split goalkeeping duties throughout the year — Close played 707 minutes and allowed 59 goals while saving 122 shots, while Johnson allowed 36 goals in 381 minutes and saved 53 shots.

Close also played in the attacking midfield at times, scoring one goal and assisting another during the course of the season.

Playing in defense at times throughout the season, Gomez-Reyes and Tejada were mainstays in an ever-changing backline. Gomez-Reyes scored a long-distance free kick during the season, showing off her potential on the ball.

Jacobs was another strong backline presence and served as one of the leaders in defense for Marshalltown, starting 14 games and appearing in 16.
