Top-20 finishers power MHS boys to 4th place

KNOXVILLE — The Marshalltown boys’ cross country team had three top-20 finishes on its way to a fourth-place finish at the Knoxville Invitational on Tuesday at Pine Knolls Golf Club.

The Bobcats scored 100 points as a team, led individually by senior Anthoneih Kopsa. Kopsa placed 11th in a time of 18 minutes, 11.14 seconds to finish just outside the top-10.

Caleb Rasmussen, a freshman, finished 15th for MHS in 18:45.61, and sophomore John Moellers was 17th in 18:56.01.

Dale Green, a junior, took 27th in 19:33.86, while freshman Carter Nunn came in 30th in 19:39.27 to complete the team scoring. Freshman Carson Wright was 38th in 20:28.80 to close out the Bobcats’ running roster.

Winterset won the boys’ team title with 22 points, followed by Grinnell (66), Oskaloosa and Marshalltown (100), Des Moines Lincoln (114) and Knoxville (132). The Bobcats lost the tie for third place due to Oskaloosa’s sixth runner finishing closer to the front than Marshalltown’s.

The Bobcats were not one of the eight scoring teams in the girls’ varsity competition. Freshman Miller Heitmann took 20th place in a time of 23:41.33, while junior Thalia Gallegos got 43rd in 26:18.44.
