MHS matmen march past Ottumwa, 40-32

OTTUMWA — The Marshalltown boys’ wrestling team won seven of 12 contested matches and the Bobcats beat Ottumwa 40-32 in Tuesday’s Iowa Alliance Conference dual meet at Evans Middle School.

Five of Marshalltown’s seven match wins earned bonus points, highlighted by four pins for the Bobcats. Angel Chavez Ordaz (113), Daunte Wells (126), Nick Rebik (170) and Ignacio Macias (182) picked up pinfalls for MHS, and eighth-ranked Luke Hageman (145) scored a 16-3 major decision over Koby Chanthalavanh.

Ivan Pantoja (138) and Dalton Zednichek (160) scored wins by decision, and Michael Narvaez Correa (220) accepted Ottumwa’s lone forfeit.

Marshalltown hosts Waterloo East on Thursday for the final regular-season dual, and the Bobcats go to Des Moines North on Saturday for the inaugural Iowa Alliance Conference Tournament.
