MONROE — Halie Hohnstein’s double-double led the West Marshall volleyball to a five-set win over PCM on Tuesday night.
The Trojans claimed their first Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference victory following a come-from-behind 25-18, 26-28, 26-28, 25-18, 15-8 triumph over the Mustangs.
West Marshall used a 7-0 run in the opening set to pull away from an 11-8 deficit. The Trojans never trailed by fewer than three the rest of the way.
The visitors couldn’t pull out the next two sets despite leading 21-18 in the second game and 23-19 in the third.
West Marshall forced a fifth set after leading the fourth game 4-1, 10-3 and 18-12.
In the final set, Lily Zahnd’s kill put the Trojans in front 8-4 and then Avery Evertsen pushed the advantage to 10-5 and 12-7 after a kill and a block, respectively.
Hohenstein led West Marshall (10-13 overall, 1-1 in the HOIAC) with 10 kills, 14 digs and two aces, Zahnd added 11 kills, six digs and three aces and Evertsen tallied 12 kills and three blocks.
PCM, which played in its first five-set match of the season, fell to 10-11 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Grundy Center 3, Gladbrook-Reinbeck 0
GRUNDY CENTER — Class 2A No. 3 Grundy Center steamrolled 1A No. 15 Gladbrook-Reinbeck for a three-set sweep on Tuesday night, winning 25-15, 25-15, 25-8 in an NICL West Division clash.
The host Spartans (26-2, 3-0) earned their seventh consecutive victory behind 13 kills from Carlie Willis and 10 for Kayden Muller. Shirley Monaghan added eight kills as setter Ellery Luhring racked up 31 assists.
Luhring served 14-for-14 with four aces and Willis was 13-for-13 with seven of the Spartans’ 14 aces.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck (11-11, 1-3) was led by Jaden Hansen with five kills and Lily Dripps with four kills. Kailey Larsen finished with 15 assists. Elly Sieh, Kennedy Brant and Larsen had two blocks apiece, and Larsen led the Rebels with eight digs.
South Hardin 3, East Marshall 0
ELDORA — The East Marshall volleyball team suffered its sixth straight defeat, falling 3-0 to Class 2A No. 7 South Hardin in Tuesday’s NICL West Division contest.
The Mustangs (3-15, 0-3) were led by Raylee Gile with three kills, while Makayla Kerber and Alainey Happe had two apiece. Ava Bringmann finished with eight assists.
Bailey Grant paced the Mustang defense with six digs, while Gile led the team with three blocks at the net. Grant was 5-for-5 serving with the team’s lone ace.
Clara Below had 12 kills to pace South Hardin (18-1, 2-1). Ava Paige had three blocks while also serving 16-for-16 with five aces.
North Tama 3, Colo-NESCO 0
COLO — The Class 1A No. 2 North Tama volleyball team trampled Colo-NESCO to the tune of a 3-0 sweep, winning Tuesday’s Iowa Star Conference South Division match 25-3, 25-13, 25-12.
Kruiz Ewoldt led the way with 10 kills for the Redhawks (14-10, 2-0). Setter Izzy Hallett ended the night with 14 assists. Libero Addison Hochstetler led the defense with 12 digs, while Ewoldt and Kahlia Even had one block each.
North Tama’s servers totaled 22 aces in the three-set sweep, highlighted by Hochstetler going 19-for-21 with nine aces.
